Rallying for the third consecutive session, equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty surged over 1% on Thursday, powered by intense buying in market heavyweights HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank as geopolitical tension in the Middle East eased off.

The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 1,000 points or 1.21% to settle at 83,755. During the day, it surged 1,056 points or 1.27% to 83,812. The 50-share NSE Nifty rallied 304 points or 1.21% to 25,549.

Here’s how analysts read the market pulse:

“We maintain a positive outlook on domestic-driven sectors such as financials, capital markets, agriculture-linked segments (including agri inputs, tractors, and rural consumption), and defence, which are well-positioned to benefit from ongoing policy support and seasonal tailwinds,” said Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal.

US markets

The US stock market is rising toward the brink of another record. The S&P 500 was 0.5% higher in morning trading and just 0.3% below its all-time high, which was set in February. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 264 points, or 0.6% and the Nasdaq composite was 0.5% higher.

European Markets

European shares edged higher on Thursday, aided by signs that the Israel-Iran ceasefire appeared to be holding, while investors braced for the July 9 deadline for trade deals with the United States.

Tech View

With no major resistance until the 25,700–25,750 zone, analysts expect this rally to extend by another 150–200 points on the upside. On the downside, support is seen around 25,300–25,350.
