So far in the calendar year 2025, the benchmark Sensex has posted a modest gain of around 4%. In contrast, the BSE Smallcap Index has declined by nearly 6%, reflecting broader weakness in smaller stocks. However, within the smallcap space, several individual stocks have performed exceptionally well.
In fact, about 16 stocks within the Smallcap Index have surged more than 50% year-to-date. To narrow down this list to fundamentally stronger bets, we applied an additional filter: we considered only those stocks that were held by more than 10 mutual funds as of May 2025. This is based on the rationale that mutual funds typically invest after conducting detailed research, which can offer investors added confidence in the company’s fundamentals. After applying these filters, we identified 9 smallcap stocks that have delivered returns of over 50% in 2025 so far and are backed by the portfolios of more than 10 mutual funds as of May 2025.
