Samsung’s Exynos 2500 system-on-a-chip (SoC) is now confirmed to feature satellite connectivity for emergency messaging. The confirmation came from Skylo, a US-based non-terrestrial network (NTN) provider, on Monday. This is the second confirmed information about the South Korean tech giant’s next-generation 3nm processor, which was first announced to be in development last year. As per rumours, the chipset will power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. It is said that the Exynos 2500 SoC was originally planned to be paired with the Galaxy S25 series, but was later delayed due to poor yield.

Samsung’s Exynos 2500 Gets Satellite Connectivity Certification

In a press release, Skylo, announced the certification of the Exynos 2500 mobile platform and said that it would offer improved energy efficiency and higher performance compared to its predecessor. Hui Won Je, VP of Modem Development Team at Samsung Electronics, said in the press release that the SoC would “now have the underlying technology to connect to satellites wherever cellular networks are unavailable.”

Satellite connectivity feature helps sending emergency messages to authorities and friends and family when users are stranded areas where cellular connectivity is unavailable. However, details of Samsung’s implementation of the technology are currently unclear. Notably, the upcoming chipset features the Exynos 5400 5G modem, which was also used in the Exynos 2400 processor. That mobile platform made its debut with the Galaxy S24 series.

Skylo also confirmed that the Exynos 2500 chipset’s satellite connectivity is built on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) NTN standard. It is a set of global telecom standards developed by 3GPP, which enables cellular connectivity over satellites as well as other space-based or airborne platforms.

A previous report claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 would be equipped with the Exynos 2500 chipset. Fabricated on a 3nm process, the chipset is said to feature a 10-core CPU with a maximum clock speed of 3.3GHz, and an Xclipse 950 GPU with 16MB of L3 cache. It is also reportedly being built in Samsung’s own foundry.

A SamMobile report claims that the mobile processor will be used across Samsung’s mainstream devices worldwide instead of just select markets. This means the Exynos 2500 chipset could also debut with Samsung devices in the US.
